Car accidents: Officer accused of hit and run striking pedestrian

An officer of the MTA Bridges and Tunnels police has been accused of hit and run after hitting a pedestrian while in his police car. The report claims that the officer drove several miles with his victim in the car and then dumped him alongside a New York highway. The district attorney in Brooklyn claims that the officer refused to help the victim and then tried to hide the entire episode. It is one of the most controversial reports of car accidents to take place in the state.

The report claims that the officer was on patrol when he hit the victim, causing injury. He then reportedly put the injured victim into his police car and drove him away from the scene of the accident to dump him. The victim then called 911 on his cell, while the officer allegedly drove away, later returning in his personal vehicle. The claim is that the officer then leaned over into the ambulance and threatened the victim.

While the officer's attorney calls him a victim and says that he is being wrongfully accused, the victim's lawyer calls the officer's actions outrageous and cowardly. The officer has been charged with threatening the victim and leaving the scene of an accident. Ironically, the police officer is also trained as an EMT.

The officer, who pleaded not guilty, has been suspended pending the trial in New York and released without bail. Those people who have suffered injuries in car accidents such as this one may choose to seek damages in a personal injury claim. A personal injury lawyer can help explain the laws of the state to the victim and share the rights that the victim has in his or her case.
